Gastric Bypass Surgery

Gastric bypass surgery (also known as Roux-en-Y gastric bypass) is a  commonly performed laparoscopic bariatric surgery at LoneStar Bariatrics. This surgery typically takes an hour to perform. The stomach is reduced in size. Your new stomach is shaped into an egg shaped pouch using a stapler. Restricting the amount of food you can consume. In addition to restricting food intake, your small intestine is then attached to your new stomach pouch. Bypassing the first part of your intestine by using the bowel further downstream decreases calorie absorption.  Gastric bypass surgery also increases hormone production which makes you feel full faster and decreases hunger.

Gastric bypass surgery can help treat obesity in addition to many medical conditions or diseases such as, Type 2 Diabetes, heart disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and obstructive sleep apnea.  Please call us if you are considering gastric bypass surgery or bariatric surgery.
