Over his career, Dr. Carlton has received several prestigious awards, including the physician-voted D Magazine Top Doctor in both Dallas and Collin counties. Dr. Carlton was born and raised in Dallas. After receiving his undergraduate degree from University of Texas at Austin, he attended Medical School at University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. Dr. Carlton completed his residency at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. Dr. Carlton returned home to continue his surgical training at the Bariatric Medical Institute (BMI) of Texas in San Antonio and Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in Houston. These studies included an advanced fellowship in bariatric, minimally invasive laparoscopic, and robotic surgery, where he studied with a world leader in robotic surgery, Dr. Erik Wilson. Through his extensive training and years of experience his practice has evolved. He performs cutting edge procedures involving the magnet, robot and laparoscopic procedures and he proctors other surgeons interested in learning his style and techniques. Currently, he offers the Gastric Sleeve, Gastric Bypass, Duodenal Switch, SADI, Bariatric Revisions and General Surgery including gallbladder surgery and hernia repairs.
