Overcome Obesity with Confidence

Primary Bariatric Procedures

At LoneStar Bariatrics, we offer a full range of minimally invasive weight-loss surgeries to support long-term health and sustainable results. Each procedure works differently, and Dr. Carlton carefully tailors recommendations based on your medical history, goals, and lifestyle. Our primary bariatric procedures include:

  • Gastric Sleeve
  • Gastric Bypass
  • Duodenal Switch (DS)
  • Adjustable Gastric Banding (Lap-Band)
  • Revision Bariatric Surgery
  • SADI/SIPS
  • Magnetic Surgery / MARS
  • Robotic Bariatric Surgery
  • Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG)
  • Transoral Oultet reduction (TORe)
Gastric Sleeve

Gastric sleeve surgery permanently reduces the size of the stomach. During the procedure, a large portion of the stomach is removed, leaving a narrow, sleeve-shaped stomach. This smaller stomach holds less food, helping you feel full sooner with smaller portions. The procedure also lowers the levels of ghrelin, the hormone that stimulates hunger, thereby significantly reducing appetite and cravings. Gastric sleeve surgery does not reroute the intestines.

Gastric Bypass

Gastric bypass surgery helps with weight loss through both restriction and hormonal changes. The surgeon creates a small stomach pouch and connects it to a portion of the small intestine, bypassing the rest of the stomach and part of the digestive tract. This limits how much food you can eat and reduces calorie absorption. Gastric bypass also alters gut hormones, improving satiety, reducing hunger, and often leading to improvements in type 2 diabetes.

Duodenal Switch

The duodenal switch is a powerful weight-loss procedure that combines a gastric sleeve with intestinal bypass. First, the stomach is reduced in size, similar to a sleeve gastrectomy. Then, the small intestine is rerouted to significantly limit calorie and fat absorption. This dual approach leads to substantial and durable weight loss, particularly for patients with severe obesity. However, DS requires lifelong vitamin supplementation since it affects nutrient absorption.

SADI/SIPS Surgery

SADI/SIPS is a newer variation of the duodenal switch that simplifies the intestinal portion of the surgery. After creating a sleeve-shaped stomach, the surgeon connects the intestine using a single anastomosis instead of multiple connections. This still delivers strong weight-loss and metabolic benefits while reducing surgical complexity and operative time. SADI/SIPS helps decrease hunger, limits calorie absorption, and often improves obesity-related conditions.

Transoral Outlet Reduction (TORe)

Transoral Outlet Reduction (TORe) is a minimally invasive endoscopic procedure for patients who regain weight after gastric bypass. It tightens the enlarged gastric outlet between the stomach and intestines using sutures. This slows down food passage, increasing fullness, reducing hunger, and supporting safe, durable weight loss without external incisions or significant downtime, and long-term metabolic health improvements.

Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG)

Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) is a minimally invasive, non-surgical weight loss procedure performed by Dr. Chad Carlton. Using an endoscope, sutures reshape the stomach into a smaller sleeve, limiting food intake and increasing fullness. It’s an outpatient procedure with a quick recovery, is reversible if needed, and can improve obesity-related conditions.

Additional Procedures

Gastric Revision Surgery

Gastric revision surgery is meant for patients who have previously undergone weight-loss surgery but did not achieve their desired results or experienced weight regain. This procedure modifies or corrects the original surgery to improve restriction, restore anatomy, or enhance metabolic effects. Revision surgery is highly individualized and may involve resizing the stomach, converting to a different bariatric procedure, or correcting complications.

Gastric Balloon

The gastric balloon is a non-surgical, temporary weight-loss option that involves placing a soft balloon inside the stomach. Once in place, the balloon is filled with saline, taking up space and helping you feel full sooner while eating less. The balloon remains in the stomach for several months before being removed. This can help jump-start weight loss and support healthier eating habits, especially for patients who may not be ready or eligible for surgery.

BariClip

The BariClip is a novel, non-invasive bariatric procedure that reduces stomach capacity without altering the anatomy. This device is placed laparoscopically around the stomach to create a smaller pouch, limiting food intake and promoting weight loss. Unlike other procedures, the BariClip is reversible, offering a less permanent weight loss solution.

ROSE Procedure

The ROSE procedure is a non-surgical revision option for patients who have regained weight after a gastric bypass. Using an endoscopic approach through the mouth, the surgeon reduces the size of the stomach pouch and tightens the connection to the small intestine. By restoring restriction without external incisions, the ROSE procedure can help patients regain control of portion sizes and support renewed weight loss with minimal downtime.

Non-Surgical Medical Weight Loss

Not every patient needs or wants surgery to achieve better health. LoneStar Bariatrics offers non-surgical weight-loss options to support meaningful progress without incisions. Treatments such as gastric balloons and BariClip help reduce portion sizes and encourage earlier fullness. When combined with personalized nutrition counseling and lifestyle support, these approaches provide a safe, effective way to build healthier habits and achieve sustainable weight loss without undergoing a surgical procedure.

Abdominal Surgery

At LoneStar Bariatrics, we provide minimally invasive abdominal surgery to diagnose and treat common conditions that can affect comfort, digestion, and overall quality of life. Using advanced laparoscopic and robotic techniques, Dr. Carlton focuses on reducing pain, minimizing scarring, and shortening recovery time. Each procedure is carefully planned around your specific condition and health goals to ensure the safest and most effective outcome possible.

Cholecystectomy

A cholecystectomy is the surgical removal of the gallbladder, most commonly performed to treat gallstones or gallbladder inflammation. Using a minimally invasive approach, the gallbladder is removed through small incisions, allowing bile to flow from the liver into the small intestine. This relieves pain, nausea, and digestive discomfort caused by gallbladder disease while allowing most patients to return to normal activities quickly.

Hernia Surgery

Hernia surgery repairs weakened or damaged areas of the abdominal wall where tissue or organs push through. During the procedure, the surgeon repositions the tissue and reinforces the area, often using surgical mesh for added strength. Minimally invasive techniques help reduce post-operative pain and lower the risk of recurrence, restoring abdominal strength and preventing complications such as bowel obstruction or strangulation.

Reflux Surgery

Reflux surgery is specifically performed to treat chronic acid reflux and GERD when medications no longer provide adequate relief. The procedure strengthens the valve between the esophagus and stomach, preventing acid from flowing backward. By correcting the underlying cause of reflux, surgery can relieve persistent heartburn, protect the esophagus from damage, and significantly improve long-term digestive comfort and quality of life.
