  • Magnetic Surgery/MARS

Gastric Sleeve

The gastric sleeve, or sleeve gastrectomy, removes approximately 70-80% of the stomach, reshaping it into a narrow tube. This not only restricts the amount of food you can eat but also reduces hunger-producing hormones like ghrelin. Because it preserves the natural digestive pathway, the gastric sleeve offers significant, steady weight loss with a lower risk of nutrient deficiencies compared to more complex bypass procedures.

Gastric Bypass

Gastric bypass, also known as Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, works through a combination of restriction and malabsorption. The stomach is divided to create a small pouch, which is then connected directly to a segment of the small intestine. This reduces calorie absorption and helps regulate blood sugar more efficiently. Gastric bypass is especially effective for patients with severe reflux, type 2 diabetes, or higher BMI ranges.

Duodenal Switch (DS)

The duodenal switch combines a sleeve gastrectomy with a significant rerouting of the small intestine. This method offers the greatest long-term weight loss and the most powerful metabolic improvements of all bariatric surgeries. By dramatically reducing fat and calorie absorption while maintaining a larger sleeve shape, DS is highly effective for patients with severe obesity or complex metabolic disease. However, close nutritional monitoring is essential.

SADI/SIPS

SADI (single anastomosis duodeno-ileal bypass) or SIPS (stomach intestinal pylorus-sparing surgery) is a modern variation of the duodenal switch. It begins with a sleeve gastrectomy and is followed by a single surgical connection between the duodenum and the lower part of the small intestine. This simplifies the bypass while providing excellent metabolic benefits. SADI/SIPS is ideal for patients seeking weight loss with fewer nutritional challenges than the classic DS.

Additional Procedures

Gastric Revision Surgery

Gastric revision surgery is performed to correct or improve the results of a previous bariatric procedure. Over time, some patients may experience weight regain, anatomical changes, or complications such as pouch enlargement, band intolerance, or severe reflux. Revision surgery is tailored to the underlying issue and may involve tightening, converting, or repairing the initial operation to restore function and help you get back on track with your goals.

Gastric Balloon

The gastric balloon is a nonsurgical, temporary weight-loss option for individuals who may not qualify for or prefer to avoid bariatric surgery. During an endoscopic procedure, a soft balloon is placed into the stomach and then filled with saline. The balloon occupies space, helping you feel full sooner and reducing your overall food intake. Over the next six months, you will work with our team to build healthier habits while the device supports portion control.

BariClip

BariClip is a minimally invasive, reversible alternative to traditional bariatric surgery. Instead of removing or rerouting any part of the stomach, a specialized clip is placed along the stomach’s outer wall to create a sleeve-like shape. This limits the food you can eat while preserving normal digestion. Because BariClip does not involve cutting or stapling, it offers a reduced risk profile and faster recovery while still providing meaningful weight-loss support.

ROSE Procedure

The ROSE (restorative obesity surgery endolumenal) procedure is an endoscopic technique used to tighten a stretched gastric pouch or stoma after gastric bypass surgery. Over time, these structures can enlarge, leading to reduced restriction and weight regain. Using a flexible endoscope, Dr. Carlton places internal sutures to restore the original size and shape without external incisions. The ROSE procedure enhances fullness and improves portion control.

Abdominal Surgery

At LoneStar Bariatrics, we provide advanced minimally invasive abdominal surgery to treat conditions that affect your digestion and health. Using laparoscopic and robotic techniques, we offer precise procedures with smaller incisions, reduced pain, and a faster recovery. Whether you’re experiencing gallbladder disease, hernias, or chronic reflux, Dr. Carlton delivers attentive, individualized care from diagnosis through recovery.

Cholecystectomy

A cholecystectomy is the surgical removal of the gallbladder, typically performed to treat gallstones, inflammation, or infection. Using minimally invasive techniques, Dr. Carlton removes the gallbladder through small incisions, which reduces discomfort and speeds recovery. This procedure prevents future gallbladder attacks, alleviates pain, and restores normal digestive function. Most patients go home the same day and return to normal activities quickly.

Hernia Surgery

Hernia surgery repairs weakened or torn abdominal muscle walls that allow internal tissue to push through, creating a bulge or discomfort. Dr. Carlton uses advanced laparoscopic or robotic approaches to reinforce the area with sutures and, when appropriate, surgical mesh. This helps strengthen the abdominal wall, reduce the risk of recurrence, and support long-term stability. Minimally invasive hernia repair results in smaller scars and a faster return to daily activities.

Reflux Surgery

Reflux surgery is performed to treat chronic gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) when medications and lifestyle changes are not enough. Using minimally invasive techniques, Dr. Carlton strengthens the valve between the stomach and esophagus to prevent acid from flowing upward. Reflux surgery can dramatically reduce heartburn, protect the esophagus, and improve quality of life, especially for patients with long-standing or severe symptoms.
