Gastric Sleeve
The gastric sleeve, also known as sleeve gastrectomy, removes about 75–80% of the stomach, leaving a slender, banana-shaped pouch. Reducing stomach size limits the amount of food you can eat while also lowering hunger hormone levels, which helps reduce appetite. Gastric sleeve surgery has the ability to promote steady, long-term weight loss.
Gastric Bypass
Gastric bypass, or Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, involves creating a small pouch at the top of the stomach and rerouting a portion of the small intestine to connect with it. This limits the amount of food you can consume and reduces the absorption of calories. Gastric bypass also has beneficial effects on blood sugar regulation, often improving or resolving type 2 diabetes.
Duodenal Switch
The duodenal switch combines elements of both restrictive and malabsorptive procedures. It begins with a sleeve gastrectomy to reduce stomach size, followed by rerouting a significant portion of the small intestine to limit calorie and fat absorption. This dual approach leads to substantial and sustained weight loss, particularly for patients with severe obesity.
SADI/SIPS Surgery
Single Anastomosis Duodenal-Ileal Bypass with Sleeve (SADI or SIPS) is a simplified version of the duodenal switch. Like DS, it starts with a sleeve gastrectomy but requires only one intestinal connection instead of two, reducing surgical complexity while achieving excellent weight loss results. Patients benefit from both restriction of food intake and reduced calorie absorption.
Additional Procedures
Gastric Revision Surgery
Gastric revision surgery is performed when a patient has had a prior bariatric procedure that did not achieve the desired results or led to complications. This surgery can involve correcting an anatomical issue, adjusting a previous gastric bypass, or converting one procedure into another, such as Lap-Band to gastric sleeve. Revision surgery aims to restore effective weight loss.
Gastric Balloon
The gastric balloon is a non-surgical, temporary weight loss option for patients seeking less invasive treatment. During a simple endoscopic procedure, a soft balloon is placed inside the stomach and filled with saline. The balloon takes up space, helping patients feel fuller faster and consume smaller portions. This can help jumpstart weight loss without undergoing surgery.
BariClip
The BariClip is a specially designed clip placed around the stomach to create a smaller gastric pouch, limiting food intake without permanently removing or rerouting any part of the digestive system. Because the procedure is reversible and does not involve cutting or stapling, it appeals to patients who prefer a less invasive approach with fewer long-term anatomical changes.
ROSE Procedure
The ROSE procedure is for patients who have regained weight after gastric bypass surgery. Over time, the stomach pouch or outlet may stretch, reducing the procedure’s effectiveness. Using a flexible endoscope, a surgeon places sutures inside the stomach to reduce the size of the pouch and outlet without external incisions, enabling patients to continue losing weight.
Non-Surgical Medical Weight Loss
Surgery isn’t the right path for everyone. At LoneStar Bariatrics, we offer a range of non-surgical weight loss options to help you achieve meaningful results without incisions. Treatments such as the gastric balloon and BariClip work by limiting food intake and promoting healthier eating habits. Paired with personalized nutrition and lifestyle guidance, these solutions give patients the tools they need to lose weight safely and sustainably without surgery.

Abdominal Surgery
LoneStar Bariatrics offers expert minimally invasive abdominal surgeries to treat a range of conditions. Dr. Carlton performs procedures such as gallbladder removal (cholecystectomy), reflux surgery, and hernia repairs using advanced laparoscopic and robotic techniques for greater precision, less discomfort, and quicker recovery. From gallbladder issues to abdominal hernias, we deliver personalized, high-quality care to every patient.
Cholecystectomy
Cholecystectomy is the surgical removal of the gallbladder, typically performed to treat gallstones that cause pain, infection, or digestive complications. Using a laparoscopic approach, small incisions are made in the abdomen, allowing the surgeon to safely remove the gallbladder with minimal scarring and faster healing. Most patients go home the same day.
Hernia Surgery
Hernia surgery repairs weakened or torn areas of the abdominal wall through which tissue or organs may protrude. Hernia repairs are performed laparoscopically, using mesh reinforcement to strengthen the abdominal wall and prevent recurrence. Hernia repair not only relieves discomfort but also prevents more serious issues like bowel obstruction or strangulation.
Reflux Surgery
Reflux surgery is done to treat chronic gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) that does not respond to medications or lifestyle changes. The upper part of the stomach is wrapped around the lower esophagus to reinforce the valve mechanism that prevents stomach acid from flowing backward. This improves symptoms like heartburn, regurgitation, and esophageal irritation.
